Article by Scott, Jude E. (1995) in DATA BASE Advances, 26:1.

This paper is basically not a research methodology paper. It actually reports the evaluation of few measurement model of IS effectiveness. However, there is a part of this paper where I really interested and I consider it as part of contribution to research methodology. It’s the part where the author explains the three types of measurement model, i.e. reflective, formative and mimic.

There are three major considerations in making the choice of measurement model type: (1) the study objective; (2) theory; and (3) empirical contingencies. The author gave an example of how the three considerations take place in determining the modes.

Of the three types of measurement model, the author concluded that mimic mode offer the most promising result.
